You are going to spend the weekend with your girlfriends at the spa. You are excited to have some real girl away time and relax and get pampered. You can’t wait to see the improvements you will have to your skin and appearance as well as what a couple days of massage and relaxing can do for you.

Of course one of the top things on your to do list is getting a facial. You know that your poor facial skin has been all but abandoned lately and you are happy it will get some good loving attentions. When you go in you find that you don’t simply sign up for a facial, there are a long list of different types of facials and extra options to choose from. How do you know which one to go for?

One of the things you find is a microdermabrasion facial. This sounds familiar but you don’t really know what it is and, honestly, it doesn’t sound like the relaxing cucumber on your eyelid facial you were imagining. Still, your skin has been feeling rough and you do have some patchiness that might benefit from the process.

You don’t want to choose the microdermabrasion facial without knowing just what you are in for. Will it be painful and will your skin need a few days to recover, out of the sun and away from public view? Will it take a long time? What exactly is it?

You ask the esthetician who is in charge of facials. She looks like she must be in her early fifties but she looks beautiful. You find yourself trusting her. She explains very clearly in terms you can understand, defining some of the procedures.

You find out that the process is not painful. What happens is a machine is used to shoot super-fine crystals onto the surface of your skin. This removes the very top layer of skin. Then the crystals are vacuumed up with another machine, leaving your skin smoother and newer than before.

The lady tells you that microdermabrasion facials are perfect for people like you who have some sun damage and a bit of discoloration. They are also good for people with mild acne and with raised scarring on the skin.

You make your decision. This is the one for you. You know this is what your skin needs to get back some of its vitality and smoothness. You go in for the facial and find that everything you were told is correct. It doesn’t hurt and when you are done your skin feels fresh and smooth.

Back in your room you observe your skin more carefully. It is true! You have never seen your skin looking so smooth or feeling so soft. Some of the discolored spots have completely disappeared and the worst ones are much lighter. You are glad you chose that facial and now you will have to look for a spa or doctors office near your home where you can have them done more regularly!
