IPL Facial: The Heavy Foundation Goes, The Mirror Stays
You wake up in the morning and head to the bathroom. It was a hard night and you splash your face with water to help you wake up fully before heading down to make breakfast. After you dry off your face you look in the mirror. You move in closer. It’s all there. Still there. The discoloration, the red cheeks, the wrinkles and sun damage. You look awful and you think about getting rid of that darn mirror altogether.
Throughout the day you keep thinking about that. You used to have beautiful skin. You are certainly not aging beautifully. You think there must be something modern technology can do for your face. There has to be some way to at least improve the appearance of your skin somewhat.
You get online to find out what kind of facial treatments might help people like you with flushed faces, sun-damaged skin, and hyperpigmentation. You start reading about IPL or intense pulsed light treatment and decide that might just be what you need. You schedule an appointment with a dermatologist.
During your consultation the doctor agrees with you that an IPL facial is probably your best solution. You learn that you will have six to eight treatments. Each will last only about a half an hour and you will go a few weeks in between sessions.
Of course you are worried about if it will hurt. The doctor tells you it feels about like you are being snapped with a rubber band each time and gives you the option to have some topical anesthesia. You take it and the doctor starts in on the IPL facial.
You sit there while the light is shot into your skin. Yes, you can feel it, but it’s not too bad. Especially because you know it will give you a more even skin tone and freshen up your appearance. No pain no gain, you tell yourself. Soon enough it is over.
Your skin is red and slightly swollen, but it doesn’t hurt anymore. You head home. The next day you look at your skin. You think you can see a difference already. You can’t wait until you get the rest of the treatments and have your final results. You know you won’t be needing to throw that mirror away. You might also be able to get rid of your thick foundation and opt for the lighter kind you wore when you were younger.
A few months later and you find you were right. The mirror is staying. The heavy foundation is going. And you are going too – out for a night on the town. You feel better than ever and your self consciousness about your facial skin is gone. And all for a total of a few hours sitting in a chair.
